Grateful thanks

AS one of the people whose flat in South Terrace was flooded out last week, I would like to express my thanks and congratulations to the following people, who I feel responded magnificently to this incident.

To Eileen and Alan, who within minutes made their Racing Greens guesthouse a welcoming base for displaced residents, despite having their own basement flooded;

To the staff at the Sports Dome, who had an emergency reception centre up and running in a very short space of time, and provided much-needed hot drinks and food, including vegetable korma at 4am!

To Arun District Council’s housing team, who within a few hours were giving advice and assistance with accommodation, and in some cases even contacted homeowners’ insurance companies for them;

To our mayor, Emma Neno, who spent so much time in the area throughout the whole week, and had a great deal of help and useful advice to offer.

I am also indebted to the fire crews, who pumped my flat out twice, before Southern Water’s pumps did so for the third time.

Finally, to all of my neighbours who furnished me with cups of tea and a sandwich during the great clear-up operation, along with other practical assistance.

My grateful thanks to you all.
