Lake District adventure for cadets

The group were joined by other members of Sussex Wing for the annual training week which saw cadets take part in activities such as mountain walking, canoeing, kayaking, climbing and abseiling. Cadets utilised accommodation at the Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre in Windermere which was their base for the week.

Teamwork and leadership was not only tested on the hills but also working in the Centre in group tasks including cooking, washing, making lunches and cleaning. This week long course is quite difficult to get a place on, as there are only 30 spaces for the whole of the Sussex area.

Two Horsham Air Cadets, Finlay Collins (15) and Thomas Footitt (15) ended the week by climbing Scafell Pike, the highest point in England at 978m high led by an experienced mountain leader.

Officer Commanding of 1015 (Horsham) Air Cadets, Flight Lieutenant Richard Foster said:

“This has been a very tiring but rewarding week for the cadets with many skills tested and knowledge gained in a wild country area. All the Cadets had a chance to experience some fantastic opportunities in the picturesque setting of the Lake District. I had the privilege to be there and see the Cadets gain confidence and gain new skills in a very short amount of time.”

Adventure Training is one of many actives offered by Horsham Air Cadets, they also have the chance to do many activities including visits to RAF Stations, Flying & the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
