LETTER: Dumping ground for Crawley

The planning inspector Geoff Salter has raised the number of homes required in Horsham District over the planning period from around 650 per annum to a now whopping 800 per annum.

This is primarily because it has come to light at the Crawley planning examination that Crawley is a huge number - 5,000-plus - short in its plan.

This equates to 3,000 homes extra, ie, the number proposed to be built at North Horsham.

These homes should be provided where they are required - as an urban extension to Crawley, and not dumped at North Horsham where they most certainly are not required, or wanted.

The land to the west of Ifield, on the Crawley boundary, is available, sustainable and deliverable for 2,500-plus homes and all necessary infrastructure and has been promoted for development since 2007 by a consortium of British developers.

But despite this, Crawley council is still determined to dump its own housing plan shortfall onto the abused and unhappy residents of North Horsham.
