Pupils set to ‘Get Caught Reading’
This is a brilliant opportunity to raise the profile of and to celebrate the sheer pleasure of reading a good book.
GCR is an initiative celebrated across Burgess Hill during this week and Oakmeeds Community College is excited to be involved. Staff in the English Department and Learning Resource Centre have organised various workshops and events with a brilliant illustrator and two inspiring authors all due to make an appearance. ‘Read in the Park’ will also be taking place on Thursday, when Oakmeeds students will enjoy reading with pupils from Burgess Hill primary schools.

Hide AdThe College will also be taking part in ‘Drop Everything And Read’ every day next week. This is a national initiative to encourage reading for pleasure across all age groups (see www.dropeverythingandread.com for more details).
No advance warning or timetable will be given but all students (and staff of course) will be given a surprise ten minutes at some point every day to enjoy and relish some silent, recreational reading by literally dropping everything and reading.
