Ready for injuries?

LIKE Derek Wilkins and Patrick Mason (Gazette letters, February 3 and 17) and many local residents, Arun Access Group is alarmed that Arun District Council is considering allowing cyclists to use the Promenade at Littlehampton seafront. Apparently, a whole 40 or so people have supported the proposals.

To access the Promenade, cyclist will need to make a detour from the perfectly useable roads. What benefit is this to them? If they want to enjoy the seafront, too, they can do this from Sea Road, or even by pushing their cycles along the Promenade.

Have none of the council officials ever been to the seafront on a busy day? How will the safety of disabled people, the elderly and children be protected from cyclists?

Is Arun District Council willing to meet the compensation costs of any injured persons as a result of the inevitable accidents? Has Arun conducted an equality impact assessment as required by statute?
