Records broken at annual fundraising fete

The Friends of Ingfield Manor Grand Summer Fete raised over £13,500 on Sunday 8 June. This beat last year’s total by £1,000.

They were helped by Lynda Lewis, the local semi-finalist in TVs The Great British Sewing Bee, who declared the fete formally open. She introduced the afternoon, starting with an uplifting performance by The Horsham Youth Concert Band, who set the tone for a fun afternoon.

The crowd were reminded that the band’s conductor, Paul Satchwell of the West Sussex Music Trust, has been bringing young local musicians to the fete for about twenty years.

Everyone then enjoyed the skills of the Horsham Bluebelles, who gave their usual energetic and impressive performances.

A particular delight this year was an enchanting performance by ‘The Pickled Lilies’. Their all female ‘a cappella’ singing voices set a pleasant relaxing mood in the sunshine.

The afternoon was rounded off by another set by the Concert Band followed by an “anyone join in” Zumba session, that again proved a great hit.

The unique and ever popular 101⁄4”gauge steam railway, Ingfield Light Railway had more rides than ever before. Extra trains had been put on, and extra track laid especially for the fete, so that more people could enjoy this special attraction.

Mr Don Newport, chairman of the Friends of Ingfield, said: ‘The afternoon had a lovely atmosphere - everyone seems to have enjoyed themselves. We broke all records on beer, soft drinks and busking by students Patrick and Luke!

“The takings overall are a real credit to everyone who volunteered to help, and means we can do more to help the school and School for Parents”

Catherine Allison, the Principal at Ingfield said; “We are so grateful for all the hard work The Friendsput in, and for everyone’s support on the day. It means we can buy all those ‘extras’ that make Ingfield what it is”.

Ingfield Manor School is a day and weekly boarding school for primary and secondary aged pupils with cerebral palsy. It is run by Scope and has a unique place in the development of Conductive Education in this country. The Dame Vera Lynn Trust School for Parents works with children aged 0 to 5 and their families.

The Friends of Ingfield is a small group of local people dedicated to raising money for the children of Ingfield. The fete is their biggest event of the year.
