Boost for local artists and businesses as Brighton and Hove gets new radio station

Following the national networking of programming for Heart and Capital (formerly known as Juice 107.2) local music marketing company Decadance, has been awarded a local D.A.B license and is launching a brand-new local station for the city this summer.

Decadance Radio is run by an ‘all-local’ Brighton born and bred team who have years of local knowledge coupled with the industry skills to drive forward the support the city needs, including support for local artists as well as the local business community, who until now, have all been priced out of the market place for radio advertising and sponsorships.

Decadance Radio will broadcast a minimum 15 hours-a-day local programming, including slots for local artists and shows to nurture new talent. There will also be the creation of new jobs in other support areas including digital media, marketing and music education.

Decadance already has partnerships with local music education establishments, including BIMM music college and Brighton University, providing placements for students and supporting their education within certain modules. Moving forward Decadance will be creating new and exciting opportunities with the additional radio platform where students can contribute towards the station output whilst also building towards their end qualification.

From a business angle, there will be a greater opportunity for the business community to reach out to their audience and communicate through tailored sponsorship packages, which will give greater flexibility through endorsed content and cross-platform tie-ins.

A massive step forward for local radio is that Decadance will also be one of the first commercial stations in the UK to launch as a ‘non-advertisement’ station, relying purely on the sponsorships and partnerships it creates.

This will mean a better listen for local fans of the station by cutting adverts which clutter the programming and giving sponsors a great impact on their partnership, with the exclusivity of having their messaging being tagged to a specific show or area of the station.

The music itself will also be forward thinking, with much greater support for ‘non-mainstream’ talent and a greater choice of music programming. Unlike mainstream stations owned by the large media corporations, Decadance, as an independent station, will have main daytime programming combining a crossover of popular mainstream music and a more underground, new talent feel. Then outside of the main daytime schedules there will be a greater emphasis on more specialist programming created locally with support from the rest of the programming team.

Anthony Nichols, Music, Content & Programmes Director, who himself has worked with the BBC, Kiss FMUK and Capital Group in his 18 years in radio, described the launch as a very exciting time for Brighton & Hove as well as the team involved,

“To move back to Brighton and be given the opportunity to launch a brand-new station from scratch for my home city is a real honour and a project I’m very much looking forward to growing. Our aim is simple, to bring great local programming to the city following the loss of Juice 107.2. With great music, a proper professional platform for local artists and opportunities for the local business community, on a level not being done by anyone else currently.”
