Any harbour user who has overcome a challenge to remain afloat can be proposed.

The Challenge Cup is name in honour of Chaloner Chute who survived cancer and then got hit by a car while out on his bike a year ago.

Mr Chute said: “A year ago, I was involved in a collision with a car while out on my bike. I suffered serious traumatic injuries and I am now recovering well. As it happened the driver of the car was a nurse and she was blinded by the Autumn sun. She didn’t see me. I ended up in the A&E at her Hospital, St Richard’s.

“Following wonderful care and treatment I am making a steady recovery.

“Boating in the harbour has been mandatory therapy and learning to walk again has been a challenge.

“I know that there have been lots of similar injuries and health issues, and so I wish to shine a light on all those who have been going through a tough time.

The Challenge Cup is being hosted by the Yacht Harbour and will be presented at their Laying-up supper on November 5.

The winner will be presented with the cup and also receive two free tickets to the supper, to be held at The Deck restaurant.
