The RSPCA’s Sussex North branch, based in Haywards Heath, is still working to provide support to animals in need.

Anita Marsland, chairman, said: “The branch is still very active providing welfare support to animals in need for those within the eligible criteria. During the weekend of Friday, February 12 to Sunday, February 14, Pets At Home have a fundraising weekend where local branches will receive 50 per cent of donations made at the tills.

“As we will be unable to be present to represent the branch during this weekend we would appreciate anyone shopping there at either the Crawley or Burgess Hill branches to please remember the branch and donate in order for us to continue with this support.

“During these times, when inspectors are stretched to their limits, advice can often be found to reduce the load of enquiries going through to the helpline. We are also urging people who take on a puppy and then find they cannot cope not to use social media to sell or rehome their pet but to contact the rescue centres who are best equipped to find them the safest home.”
