Heavy rain sparks flood alert for the Horsham district

A flood alert has been issued for the Upper River Arun affecting the Horsham district following heavy rain.

The Government flood warning service says that if as much rain falls as predicted from 3pm today “flood water could affect fields, rural roads and gardens including possibly approaching isolated mill properties between Broadbridge Heath and Pallingham Quay, including Wanford.

“The A272 Newbridge road near Billingshurst could also be affected. Properties are not currently expected to be affected in Horsham.

“The river is unlikely to peak until the early hours of Tuesday. But with heavy rain also possible Monday evening and Wednesday, flood risk could persist or even increase over the week ahead.

“Flood protection products in Wanford are recommended to be installed, if you have them.

“Our automatic sluice at Provender Mill is operating to help reduce the risk of flooding through Horsham.”
