The town’s Courtyard Surgery says it vaccinated around 1,900 people in just a day and a half - but could carry out up to 3,000 vaccinations a day if it had more vaccine stocks.

The vaccinations - being carried out at Christ’s Hospital Bluecoat Sports Club - are being given first to those aged over 80 and health and social care workers.

The surgery says it should have a date soon for carrying out the next lot of jabs but it urges people not to call the surgery. A spokesman said: “We will call you, we are working down the ages, oldest first.

“We are still confirming a vaccine supply. We have been blessed with the support from Christ’s Hospital school allowing us to use their facility.

“We have the teams and facilities and could do so much more but currently only being delivered 400 next week so may be open for an hour or two.

“If delivered the the right amount of the Oxford Vaccine we could be protecting with vaccination 2,500-3,000 patients a day.

“We are campaigning for more and hope to do a larger clinic the following week.”

Meanwhile, Horsham’s Park Surgery - which is the central clinic for Park, Riverside, Holbrook and Orchard surgeries - is also calling for more vaccine supplies.

It has so far vaccinated 2,300 people aged over 80 with a first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, along with a second dose to the first 975 people.

Government rules now mean that the rest of those requiring a second dose will get it within 12 weeks.

A spokesman said: “We are continuing to request more supplies of vaccine to continue to vaccinate the remaining cohorts.”
