More than 1000 people have signed up to the clean the beach between 7am-4pm, and will dance as they litter-pick, listening to music on wireless Bluetooth headphones provided by the Silent Disco group.

The clean up has been organised by the Ocean’s 8 Brighton collective. A spokesperson for the group said: “Last year City Clean staff collected more than 100 tonnes of litter after Pride, and with an estimated 450,000 people due to attend the city-wide weekend festival, the Ocean’s 8 Brighton team say it is our duty to support the city cleaners and protect the ocean.”

Oceans 8 Brighton is a collaborative co-operative formed of eight female-led projects who are working in the city and beyond to protect the world’s oceans. The Silent Disco will feature 50 years of pop hits from ‘60s flower power, ‘70s disco and ‘80s New Romantics to pop-tastic ‘90s and Noughties.

A statement from Pride said: “Our beaches are our city’s crowning glory and, whist Pride don’t manage or organise events on the beach, we feel we all have a responsibility to keep our city clean, not just on Pride weekend but all year round.

“We are proud to have partnered with a number of other local community organisations to support and sponsor the first ever ‘Big Pride Silent Disco Beach Clean’ to be delivered by Ocean’s 8 Brighton, supported by Brighton Watersports and the Bird & Blend Tea Co.” Registration for the Silent Disco beach clean is now closed.
