Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre, in the A22 Lewes Road, Chelwood Gate, will be hosting its online Lonely Hearts Day on Sunday February 14 over Facebook Live.

A spokesman said: “From 2pm, animal lovers will be able to log in to the centre’s Facebook page to virtually meet some of the cats currently being cared for at the centre.

“And for a suggested £10 donation, supporters can send in a message to a loved one which staff will aim to read out during the day. Cat lovers can also help by buying a catnip heart toy or another essential item on the centre’s Amazon wish list.”

Among the cats who will be introduced on the day are 11 moggies which were handed into the centre from one household after their owner died.

Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre deputy manager Tania Marsh said: “Many of the cats had lived inside all their lives, apart from a couple who had been taken in as strays, so arriving at the centre and being placed in our pens was stressful for them.

“Over the days, since they have been in our care, some of the cats have started to come out of their shells and enjoy fusses with our staff, while others are still adjusting and are hiding themselves away for now. Many of these cats are also requiring vet treatment before they can be ready for homing.

All the cats will need lots of care and attention to get them ready for rehoming, Tania added.

She said: “We’d be really grateful for any supporters who would like to help fund their care by purchasing an item from our Amazon wish list.”

Items from the centre’s Amazon wishlist can be purchased online and will be delivered directly to the centre. The wish list is at
