Sussex Wildlife Trust picked for prize in fine food distributor RH Amar’s 75th anniversary draw
Sussex Wildlife Trust has been picked from around 100 nominations to receive a prize from leading fine food distributor RH Amar in its 75th anniversary draw.
Shoreham-based Infinity Wholefoods made the nomination and was pleased to see the charity presented with a cheque for £5,000.
James Amar, RH Amar company director, was joined by brand manager Nerene Willis and Robin Huckle from the sales team for the presentation, which was made in a webinar attended by Louise Collins, the charity’s corporate and community fundraising officer, and Infinity Wholefoods buyer Dom Jeffery.
Louise talked through all the work the trust does, including conservation, education, community and corporate engagement.
She said the majority of its funding comes from members, which have remained stable, but the impact of Covid had meant a lot of its engagement work had to be run virtually.
Rob Amar, RH Amar managing director, said: “We had nominations from around 100 customers and brand partners for 73 UK-based charities, including both national and local charities across the UK.
“Reading the websites of all the nominated charities has been both inspiring and emotional.”
Every year, RH Amar donates 10 per cent of annual profits to charities, the majority of which are nominated by colleagues. As 2020 marked the company’s 75th anniversary, it donated an additional £75,000 to go to five charities.
Cancer Research UK, which received eight nominations, won the top prize of £50,000 and Great Ormond Street Hospital received £10,000 after being nominated by hospitality group Whitbread.
Three £5,000 prizes were given out, the other two recipients being cancer charity CLIC Sargent, nominated by Morrisons, and Southern Area Hospice Services in Northern Ireland.
Henry Amar, RH Amar chairman, said: “As we approached our 75th anniversary, we realised that the pandemic may interfere with our celebrations, but we were determined not to let it disrupt this charity draw.
“This feels particularly appropriate in a year when so many charities have struggled to raise funds and had to cancel fundraising activity that would normally form a part of their income.”
Customers and brand partners were invited to submit nominations and the five winners were chosen in a random draw.
