Don’t forget the Open Gardens at Fairlight End today and tomorrow (June 13 &14). As well as the garden to admire, there will also be a variety of stalls and tea on the lawn! From 11am to 5pm each day.

Church services on Sunday June 15 - Holy Communion, Book of Common Prayer led by Kay Burnett at 8am, St Nicholas, Pett Level; Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

On Monday June 16 the Village Choir will meet at 7:30pm at the Methodist Chapel.

There will be no POPP on Tuesday June 17 due to the new floor being laid in the main hall at Pett Village Hall. However, Pett Parish will meet in the Catherine Holman Room at 7:30pm.

Also on June 17 the Pett Ladies Stoolball team will be playing Hooe at home. Stoolball is an ancient game from which both cricket and baseball probably developed. The object of the game, as well as many of the rules, are the same as cricket with two batsmen aiming to score as many runs as possible, while fielders try to get them out with as few runs as possible. The wickets are only 16 yards apart and are boards a foot square placed 5 feet above the ground! The ball is similar to that of rounders and the bats are round, originally said to be milking stools, which over time time lost their legs and had a handle placed on the side! At the meeting of Pett WI at Pett Village Hall on Friday June 20 the speaker will be Lucy Bowyer from Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. The talk is sure to be interesting and will be followed by the usual delicious tea. The meeting starts at 2:30pm and visitors are sure of a warm welcome.

Also on Friday June 20 Pett Nats will welcome a return visit from Colin Page, a popular regular speaker, whose talks are always interesting and informative. His talk this time is ‘My Kind of Birding’ and the meeting starts at 7:30pm at Pett Village Hall. Non-members are welcome for just £2.

Pett Chapel will celebrating its 166th - that’s right - 166th anniversary over the over the weekend of June 21 and 22. As part of these celebrations, there will be a “Talents and Hobbies’ evening on Saturday June 21. There are some very clever and talented folk in our village and some of them will be coming along to share their special talents and interests. The evening will be relaxed and informal with the emphasis on ‘cafe style’ rather than seats lined up in rows. So if you fancy an interesting evening, why not go along? There will be light refreshments and whilst there is no charge, a donation will be welcome.
