Pett village voice

Did you know for example that £4million of public money went into the building of the liner? Also that it was so fast across the Atlantic that when it was pressed into service during WW2, it needed no escort? Pett WI meets on the third Friday of each month at 2:30pm in Pett Village Hall.

Saturday June 16 was special for three reasons. Firstly it was Sussex Day; secondly it was the Queen’s official birthday and finally it was the grand opening of the Pett Level Rescue Boat Boathouse Extension. Fundraising, largely organised by John and Margaret Pulfer, started in February 2011 and building work started in September that year with the building becoming functional in March of this year. To date the grand total of £41,000 has been raised for this project.

There was a good turnout including crew, trustees, District and Parish Councillors as well as other invited guests and members of the public. The weather was, in the main kind, although a bit breezy and the heavens did open briefly, once the formalities were over. After the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon by Lord Brett McLean of Hastings, the door of the extension rose to reveal the Pett Level Rescue boat complete with crew. Those attending then had the opportunity to look at both the extension and the rescue boat and talk to crew members.

Don’t forget the Open Garden at Fairlight End, Pett Road on Friday 22nd June from 4-9pm, when wine, beer and nibbles will be served, and on Saturday 23rd June from 11am-5pm, when teas and light refreshments will also be available.

Church Services on Sunday June 24 - Holy Communion with Frank Rowson, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am; Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

On Monday June 25 the Village Choir will meet again at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel.

At POPP’s on Tuesday June 26 there will advice on wills and testaments from Peter Wallace and Eye Concern will be offering free glasses’ servicing. POPP’s runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm at Pett Village Hall and includes a two course lunch for just £5.

The Mobile Library will be in Pett and Pett Level on Wednesday June 27. It will start at the Church at 10.10am, moving on to Chick Hill at 10:50am and finishing at The Smuggler at 11.20am.
