Police officer dies in Littlehampton diving incident

A MAN died in hospital following a diving accident on Saturday (August 8).

A coastguard helicopter was called to the coast off Worthing at about 11.40am, where two men, who were diving from the Proteus, a boat operated out of Littlehampton by the Metropolitan Police diving club, were unwell.

They were taken to Worthing Hospital, where a 57-year-old police officer, from Watford, later died. The other man has since been discharged.

A spokesman for Sussex police said: "Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a post mortem will be held to determine the cause of death."
