Police trace seafront death man's family

POLICE inquiries are continuing into the discovery of a man's body near Littlehampton seafront on Tuesday evening (January 12).

A post-mortem examination is due to be held tomrrow (Friday) into the cause of the man's death. Police have now traced the man's family. It was confirmed he was 42-years-old and he has been identified, but his name has not yet been released.

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious. He was found, unconscious, on a footpath near the Oyster Pond. An ambulance crew was called to the scene but he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Although the temperature dipped below freezing on Tuesday night, there was no indication, say police, that the man's death was as a result of the cold.

A greyhound dog which was with the man at the time of his death is now being cared for at a local veterinary surgery.
