Amex House developers appoint contractor for £120m project

Developers of the old American Express headquarters in Brighton have appointed a contractor '“ and said work will start at the site next May.

First Base and Patron Capital, which have permission to build homes, office space and shops on the Edward Street site, selected McLaren Construction to take on the development.

Steve Eccles, project director at First Base, said: “We are pleased to appoint McLaren, which has a demonstrable track record in delivering complex mixed-use schemes. Work on the site will begin in May 2019 and the project is set to create 1,000 jobs.

Since 2013 American Express has been operating from its newly built 1 John Street office (adjacent to the former Amex House building).
