Nigel Furness, UK Independence Party (UKIP), Brighton Pavilion
Born and bred locally, I’m a veteran of innumerable campaigns, both political (twice A Parliamentary Candidate, once European Parliamentary and many times for Local Authority positions: Brighton, Hove, Shadow Authority, Brighton & Hove and Brighton & Hove CityCouncil) and community, conservation and environmental.
Have chaired the Brunswick Parking Committee, the Western Road Regeneration Panel and sat on the Conservation Areas Advisory Committee, where I raised the deplorable state of the Bandstand ( now , thankfully, fully restored). I, it was, who uncovered the Green Council’s wicked plan to murder the Seven Dials Elm ( whilst declaring our city a UN Biosphere!) and started the successful campaign to save it (even providing the alternative plan to the Council!) Since the 1987 Hurricane I have donated many trees (mainly highly endangered English elms grown by me from seeds),to our Council as replacements for those lost and have encouraged others to do likewise as well as being involved in saving the trees on the Hove railway embankment by threatening a Chief Inspector of Police with a citizen’s arrest if he did not order Network Rail’s contractors to desist from harming world-endangered English Elms.
So many of our current problems stem from our elected politicians at all levels being hamstrung by the overwhelming powers of giant multi-national corporations and their friend, the un-elected supra-national EU. Every vote for UKIP sends a message to the establishment that, once we have our country back, we want NONE of the establishment parties running it!
