Country shouldn’t have billionaires when people are homeless says Brighton Kemptown MP

Lloyd Russell-Moyle, who was first elected in 2017 by ousting Tory Simon Kirby, appeared on the Emma Barnett Show on BBC Radio 5 Live on Thursday.

She described how some people ‘aspired to be a billionaire in this country’ and asked if that was a ‘dirty thing’.

Mr Russell-Moyle replied: “I do not think anyone in this country should be a billionaire.

“I think we should have a system where everyone is able to live well and wealthy.”

He was then asked how he’d stop people becoming billionaires.

He responded: “I think you do it by enabling everyone to be wealthy, to be able to profit from the gains of their work and their labour and invested into communities and not just sucked up by one or two people.”

Ms Barnett suggested billionaires paid millions in tax and he was portraying all of them as ‘offshore morally base individuals that nobody should aspire to’.

He felt while that some play by the rules but many do not.

He added: “I do not want this country for work for billionaires I want it to work for ordinary and normal people.”

After the interview Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn tweeted: “You know what the elites are really afraid of? Paying their taxes.”

Meanwhile Mr Russell-Moyle himself tweeted: “Let me say it one more time for the people in the back. Homeless people and billionaires shouldn’t exist in the same system.”

A general election is due to be held on Thursday December 12.
