Hove MP Peter Kyle said he's 'not about to quit' Labour

MP for Hove Peter Kyle has attempted to quell speculation he is about to quit the Labour Party.

This comes as eight Labour MPs and three Conservative MPs left their parties to form the Independent Group.

Peter Kyle took to Twitter this morning and said: "Just to be clear: I'm not about to quit. I'm totally focused on a compromise plan to end the Brexit nightmare. But I have tried really hard to show empathy with those who have, they're my friends and I'm a human being as well as politician."

The Independent Group formed this week and is a pro-EU political grouping of MPs.

Mr Kyle supported the Remain campaign and is a vocal supporter of a People's Vote.

Meanwhile Brighton & Hove City Council could be set to switch from Labour to Tory after a Labour councillor defected this morning.
