Tuppenny Barn is a charity which ‘cultivates and harvest organic produce, using this to create learning experiences for all ages and to promote the benefits of growing, cooking and eating healthy food.’

The charity, which has been going for 16 years in Southbourne, also delivers learning experiences to all ages and also grows and sell organic produce to the local community.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “With the arrival of the pandemic early in 2020, our charity's revenue was cut by 80 per cent overnight.

"Contingency measures had to be put in place to allow us to continue to deliver our services, diverting all focus and resources to the organic shop and vegetable bag scheme.

“Having held a strategic review with the board of trustees, the charity re-evaluated its objectives to improve and secure its future financial resilience.

"Without a significant change the charity’s position was deemed precarious at best.

“This new building will not only provide a stronger financial foundation, it will enable delivery of the charitable services to expand and diversify.”
