Plans for new Pett Level beach side clubhouse

Proposals to replace a beach side clubhouse in Pett Level have been submitted to Rother planners.

In an outline planning application to Rother District Council, the New Beach Club is seeking permission to replace its existing beach club building in Pett Level Road.

According to the plans, the current clubhouse would be replaced by both a new, two-storey clubhouse  and a three-storey detached dwelling on the same plot.

In a planning statement submitted as part of the application, a spokesman for the New Beach Club said: “The existing beach club building is reaching the end of its economic life and is in a poor state of repair and has an asbestos roof.

“There would therefore, be substantial community benefits in replacing the existing building with a new beach club building with improved accommodation and increased capacity.

“The building would also be more energy efficient than the existing building, through both sustainable building techniques and the utilisation of sustainable and locally sourced building materials.

“Given the significant demolition and build costs associated with creating the new beach club building however, this scheme would only be viable through the inclusion of the new dwelling, this would fund the construction of the new beach club building as ‘enabling development’.”

According to the statement, the new clubhouse would have its  own car parking and outside seating.

It would (as with the current building) be occupied as a café, restaurant and bar. The club operates on membership basis,  although visitors can pay a small fee to join for the day or weekend.

The  dwelling would have its own car parking and garden space.

As an outline proposal, the designs are only indicative (not binding) but show the applicant intends to use contemporary, energy-efficient materials.
