Primary school ‘excited’ as expansion nears approval

Pulborough’s school is a step closer to its ambitious expansion after receiving the thumbs up from local residents, parents, the parish council and district council.

Plans for St Mary’s C of E Primary School will create 105 extra placements for children in the area.

In May, Horsham District Council granted approval for the development; soon after a positive consultation with local residents and the architect was held to discuss what the expansion will bring to the community; and last week Pulborough Parish Council declared ‘no objection’ at its planning and services committee meeting.

Headteacher Alyson Heath said: “I’m feeling very positive and very excited about it.

“We already have amazing facilities here and now we plan to add four class rooms, including a home economics room, which is wonderful to have at pre-school level.”

Now awaiting a decision from West Sussex County Council, Mrs Heath hopes construction will start this September and aim to be finished in time for next September 2014.

“The new building will meet the needs of the growing community.

“Children living in the area will get a high criteria and if there are still spaces we’ll reach outside the village.”

The council’s consultation is expected to be completed by today (July 25).
