Quayside homes plan in the spotlight

NEWHAVEN Town Council has called a public meeting to discuss plans for the second phase of building works on the West Quay.

The proposed development is comprised of four blocks, providing a total of 105 one, two and three bedroom apartments.

Other features include six shops, a new boat sales showroom, public walkways and cycleways and a new access roundabout into the development.

Planning committee chairman Cllr Pat Ost said: 'This is another major building proposal for Newhaven. Like the first phase of the development, it could dramatically change the appearance of the riverside area.

'Although it will be Lewes District Council, as the planning authority, who will make the decision, the town council has a statutory right to be consulted and express the local view.

'The public meeting gives us the opportunity to listen to residents' opinions.'

The scheme's architects will give a presentation and the meeting takes place at Meeching Hall, Fort Road, on Tuesday, March 4 at 7.30pm.
