Rain could cause flooding and travel delays

The Met Office has warned that spells of rain and storms could cause flooding, lightning strikes and rail delays in Sussex.

The warning – which started at 2am today (May 29) and includes Brighton and Hove – is in force until 6am tomorrow (May 30).

The Met Office said: “There is a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded or struck by lighting, causing damage to some buildings.

“Where flooding occurs, there is a chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.”

The heaviest rain is yet to come, The Met Office said, with downpours expected this afternoon (Tuesday) through to Wednesday morning.

This comes after three cars were stuck on the A27 at Devil’s Dyke during flash floods yesterday (May 28).
