Last year 4,000 women ran in Hastings, completing the 5k course around Alexandra Park.

Carly Gibbs, who organises the Hastings race, is hoping for similar numbers this year.

One person she can be sure will take part is mother-of-three Janet Czajkowski.

Self-employed Janet, 62, is running in her third race and is dedicating the run to the memory of friend Gill Hamilton.

She said: "Gill, who lived in Bexhill, died from cancer in September last year after battling the illness for three years.

"She was my business partner as well as a friend and was a true inspiration to young people.

"She never said no if you asked her for anything and would do anything for anyone."

Janet has been doing aqua aerobics and walking along the seafront to prepare for the race.

She is running the race with daughter Martine and is not too worried about completing the race in a fast time, but would like to raise lots of money.
