Remembrance Sunday events in Horsham District

Horsham’s Carfax war memorial will be the focus of the town centre’s Remembrance Sunday service on November 8.

The Royal British Legion parade will gather at the telephone exchange car park at 10am, marching off at 10.25am to arrive at the Carfax in time for a 10.50am service, led by Father David Bouskill of Holy Trinity Church, Horsham.

The congregation will begin with the hymn ‘O God Our Help in Ages Past’, to be followed by the Last Post.

The Vicar will then lead the Exhortation. (‘They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old...’)

At 11am the two minute silence, in memory of the fallen, will begin, before Horsham District Council chairman Tricia Youtan lays a wreath on behalf of the people of Horsham district at the War Memorial. The Chairman’s Cadet, Andrew Stuckey will be in attendance.

Royal British Legion Horsham Branch chairman David Copestake and Horsham MP Jeremy Quin will then lay wreaths followed by representatives of the armed services and youth organisations.

A blessing will mark the end of the service at the Carfax memorial.

The parade will then march to the Parish Church of St Mary The Virgin in the Causeway for the Remembrance Sunday Service to which everyone is welcome.

After the service, the parade will leave the Causeway and march back through to the Carfax where the chairman of Horsham District Council and the chairman of the Royal British Legion will take the salute.

Working with the Church and Horsham District Council, the Royal British Legion is the main local organiser of Horsham’s Remembrance Sunday service.

Billingshurst

Parade will depart Frenches Mead at 10.30am to Village War Memorial where there will be a short service after which the main service will be held in St Mary’s Parish Church, Billingshurst.

After the service the parade will reform departing at around 12.15pm to march down the High Street to the Billingshurst Community Centre where the parade will be dismissed.

In the evening there will be a remembrance Sunday Songs of Praise Service which will be held in St Peters Ad Vincula Church, Wisborough Green, commencing at 6.30pm. This service is organised by the Billingshurst Branch.

Horsham

Sunday 8th September Remembrance Sunday For those parading, meet at the telephone exchange car park at 10 am. March off at 10.25. Carfax Service 10.35. Wreath Laying 11am followed by Church Service and then March Past.

Wednesday 11th November Armistice Day Service at 10.40am in the Carfax attended by the children.

Steyning and District

Church Service at St. Andrew’s and St. Cuthman’s Church Steyning on Sunday 8th November, essential seated by 10.45.a.m. Short service of remembrance at Memorial Garden, Mill Road, Steyning at 10.45.a..m. Wednesday 11th November

Warnham and Broadbridge Heath

We are having our parade starting from the village hall behind the standard, we set off marching to the church at about 10.15am, there is then a church service with the two minutes silence in the church, after the service we gather around the memorial for the laying of the wreaths. We are then dismissed.
