HISTORY STUDY GROUP: Tonight (Friday) at 7.45 in the village hall, Greg Chuter, the Assistant County Archaeologist for East Sussex will give an illustrated talk, The Archaeology of Malling Down. There is evidence of human activity here, starting as early as 4,000 BC, including a group of men who were evidently executed during the Saxon period.

FOOTBALL AND SOCIAL CLUB: Tomorrow, Saturday, the first team are away at Southwick in a SCFL Div 1 fixture and the seconds are at home to Lingfield Reserves. Both games kick-off at 3pm. On Saturday evening there is a fund raising quiz to raise funds to send a disabled child who is losing his sight to Disneyland. This is a very worthy cause and promises to be a fun evening and all are welcome at the Caburn Pavilion from 7.30pm.

RAMBLERS: The Ramblers enjoyed a brisk 4 mile circular walk north of Barcombe on Sunday February 28. Our next walk will be on Sunday, meeting as usual in the car park behind the Ringmer village shops at 10am. It will be a 5 mile circular walk from Barcombe Church to Hamsey. ST MARY’S: Sunday at St Mary’s 8am Holy Communion, 10am Eucharist for Lent and 6.30pm Evensong. On Tuesday at 7.30pm, the Mothers’ Union welcomes Revd Fox Wilson for our Lent Talk. On Friday March 18 the Youth Group meets, all aged 11 to 18 years are welcome for food and lively discussion. Contact Sue Clyde 01273 812700 for details. COUNTRY MARKET: Please remember the Country Market which takes place in the village hall each Tuesday from 10am to 11am. We sell a variety of sweet and savoury baked goods including gluten free cakes, preserves, local honey, genuine free range eggs, handmade greeting cards and other crafts. Plants and fresh vegetables are on sale according to the season and tea and coffee are always available. If you would like something made which is not on offer we are happy to take orders and can also make up hampers to any value.

BRIDGE CLUB: At its meeting on Wednesday March 2, the result of the duplicate pairs played was: Joint 1, Frank Hibbert and George Montgomery, Barrie Smith and Alan Grindley; 3, Pam Brook and John Weston. The club next meets in the St Mary’s room of the village hall on Wednesday at 7.30pm. Contact 814220.

BAPTIST CHURCH: Regular Services in the village hall: Sundays at 10.30am and 6pm. Communion usually celebrated on second Sunday (morning) and fourth Sunday (evening) each month. All welcome to our services in Lime Tree Residential House at 2.15pm on March 16 and Holm Lodge on March 23 also at 2.15pm. Teaching and Tea: Come and join us for tea first at 5pm on March 20 then watch the sixth DVD in our Ten Commandments series by J John entitled Keep The Peace With Your Parents. The Ringmer Food Bank, run by Ringmer Baptist Church, is open every Monday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Located in the village hall (Rogers Room) it is available to individuals and families referred to us by local welfare organisations. DRAMATIC SOCIETY: The next production will be a hilarious double bill of chaotic comedy, Streuth and Gosforth’s Fete. March 16 to 19 in the village hall at 7.45pm. COFFEE MORNING: Ringmer Bowls Club invite you to their coffee morning on Saturday March 19 at 10am in the club house on the Village Green. There will be all the usual stalls including cakes, raffle, tombola, books etc. Entrance 50p includes coffee and biscuits. Everyone welcome.

JUMBLE SALE: Ringmer Primary PTA are holding their annual Jumble Sale on Saturday March 19, 2pm to 4pm. Donations of Jumble gratefully received from 2.45pm to 4pm on Friday March 18 or on Saturday morning 9am to 11.30am. All of our excess jumble will be collected by the British Heart Foundation. ELIZABETH CHEYNEY CHARITY: A vacancy has arisen in one of the two Almshouses of this charity. Older members of the community of Ringmer Parish are eligible for appointment. Application for appointment must be made in writing to the Clerk to the Trustees, Elizabeth Cheyney Charity Trust, Bethany, 25 Ballard Drive, Ringmer, Lewes BN8 5NU. Applicants must state name, address, telephone number, age and occupation. They should be prepared, unless physically disabled, to attend in person. They may be required to supply evidence of qualification for appointment. Residents may be required to contribute a weekly sum towards the cost of maintaining the Almshouses of the charity and the services provided. Closing date for applications March 31.
