STOOLBALL: On Tuesday the Mixed team played at Catsfield where our batting let us down again. Only three players got into double figures, Keith Marden(33), Angela Marden(13) and Ian Kitson(12) in a total of 101 from 10.5 overs. The hosts lost their first wicket on 15 when Ben Moss held onto a catch from Kayley Sherwood’ bowling but a second wicket partnership of 37 was broken when Angela took a catch from Richard Apps’ bowling. A third wicket partnership of 70 between Katie (62n.o.), who was dropped twice, and Simon(14) gave the hosts victory and eventually ended on 128-3. The Ladies played at Brightling on Thursday and an opening partnership of 22 between Sophie Turner (28) and Penny Clark(4) gave us a solid start but when both openers went we lost two quick wickets before Kayley Sherwood (22) and JJ Boast (17) took us to 73-4. Young Jack Fifield (18) shared a partnership of 27 with Kayley before we ended our innings on 121-7. The hosts scored steadily with Mandy(28) and Sophie (21) putting on an opening partnership of 46 and when Sarah (51) came in she shared a partnership of 50 with Kika(27n.o.) to take them past our total and they finished on 151-3 with all their wickets being run out’s. Last Sunday the mixed played at Civil Service Tournament and we played the hosts first. We reached 55-1 from our 4 overs with Josh Lewis(29n.o.) and Diane Kitson(13n.o.) doing the damage but the hosts won by 25 runs despite losing three wickets to run out’s. Next was Staplecross and again we batted first with Richard Apps (12) and Diane (10) taking us to 41 before Staplecross won by 47 runs with Diane (2-21) and Richard taking a catch in their total of 88-3. Our third match was against unbeaten Crowhurst and we reached 67-2 with Ian (38n.o.) and Sally(15) reaching double figures but in reply Crowhurst reached our target without losing a wicket as they finished on 83-0. Our final match was against Icklesham and again we batted first with Gavin 39(n.o.) our main scorer in our total of 54-2 while in reply Icklesham just beat us finishing on 61-1. This Sunday is Crowhurst Mixed Tournament starting at 10.30am. while on Tuesday 23 the Ladies are away to Pett and on Thursday 25 the Mixed are at home to Civil Service with both games starting at 7pm.
