Robertsbridge studentslearning life saving skills

But now a group of students from Robertsbridge Community College are aiming to improve the odds.

The College has a group of 33 students undertaking the Bronze section of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

When the Group Co-ordinator, Mr Hougham was looking for First Aid training materials he discovered that the British Heart Foundation were about to launch a new initiative to create a ‘Nation of Lifesavers’.

An application was required to see if the DofE team met a set of requirements. This completed successfully led to the College receiving a free ‘Call Push Rescue’ kit.

The kit comprises some 35 blow-up CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) dummies together with training dvds.

All of the students undertaking the award scheme will now be trained in CPR alongside a wide range of other First Aid skills.

These are a requirement of their training before undertaking the “expedition” section of the award and of course are a valuable “life skill” for any young person.

The equipment will also prove useful for refresher training for the large number of First Aid trained staff employed at the College.

Robertsbridge College is currently looking at co-opting some new governors.

John Crouch, from the college, said: “The Governing Body is an enthusiastic team of people who enjoy working together to ensure good quality teaching and provision for the benefit of all the students who attend the College.

“ By working closely with the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership team, the aim is to continue to push RCC to becoming a truly “Outstanding” College.

“We need Governors who are forward thinking and will support us in keeping abreast of current trends in governance and education, as well as showing a commitment to supporting the College development in the future.

“The role is a strategic one and the Governing Body forms an important part of the overall College leadership.

“We are looking to appoint governors who can add to the existing skill-set. In particular we are seeking some-one with a financial/legal background, but the over-riding factors are that you are keen to give your time, are committed to the College and to raising standards, and will contribute to a number of different areas of the College community.
