Rother councillor to stand down from role due to injury

A BY-election is likely to be held after a Rother councillor resigned this week.

Bob White had been Rother District Council member for Darwell ward since May 2011 and was the authority’s cabinet member for culture, tourism and leisure.

Cllr White, who was serving his second term as a councillor having previously been member for Darwell from 2003 to 2007, said he was resigning due to deterioration of a spinal injury sustained in an accident some years ago.

He said: “As I’ve got older the injury has caught up with me and unfortunately it’s got to the point where it’s become increasingly difficult to carry out my duties.

“I’ve had a very happy time serving as a councillor and it’s been a privilege to represent the residents of the area in which I was born and bred.”

Tony Leonard, Rother District Council executive director of business operations, said: “On behalf of everyone at the council I’d like to thank Bob for his hard work and dedication to his constituents and to wish him well in his recovery.”

A formal notice of vacancy for the Darwell ward seat will be published shortly.
