Royal accolade for Ford's Sprint Electric

A company which designs and makes industrial motor controllers has received the royal seal of approval.

Sprint Electric, based at Ford's Rudford Industrial Estate, welcomed Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, to present it with a Queen's Award for Enterprise.

The firm '“ which exports 75 per cent of its products '“ won in the International Trade category of the awards in April.

The Queen and other royals held a reception for all the winners at Buckingham Palace in July.

Prince Edward presented Sprint Electric managing director Edwin Prescott with a crystal bowl when he paid his visit.

It is engraved with The Queen's Awards Emblem, which the company '“ founded in 1987 '“ is entitled to use worldwide on its packaging and in all its marketing for the next five years.

Mr Prescott said: "The Queen's Award for International Trade is a result of our sustained export growth measured over the past six years.

"We are planning for further growth and are confident of enjoying continued success over the next six years and beyond."

Sales director Gary Keen added: "Our success also owes a great deal to our overseas distributors.

"Every distributor is offered full training at our offices, so they can support our equipment in any industrial application.

"Because we design and build the complete range of products here we can be very responsive to our customers.

"Being able to ship immediately means our customers receive their orders quickly, regardless of where they are in the world."

Sprint Electric controllers are used in a wide variety of industries, including metal, rubber, plastic and food processing, paper, drug and chemical manufacture, and lifting equipment.
