LUNCHTIME CONCERT: Given by Julia Kemp (soprano) and Rosemary Kemp (piano) at St Leonard’s Church, Church Street tomorrow, Saturday, at 1pm. The concert will include music by Handel, Schubert, Mozart and Chopin. The concert lasts approximately an hour, has free admission with a retiring collection.

FAIRTRADE MARKET: At Clinton Hall, Clinton Place tomorrow, Saturday, from 10am to 1pm. There will be clothing, crafts and food products, enjoy coffee, tea or soft drink with tasty bites. There is a children’s corner and raffle. Entry 50p children free with accompanied adult.

N WATCH: Seaford and Bishopstone Neighbourhood Watch Association are holding their AGM at St Leonard’s Church Hall, Church Lane from 7.30pm on Thursday. There will be light refreshments. Non-members welcome to find out more and may wish to join. Contact telephone number 01323 893861.

SPRING SHOW: Bishopstone Spring Show for Horticultural and Produce takes place on Saturday March 19 from 2pm to 4pm at Bishopstone Parish Hall. Tea and cake will be served together with a raffle. It’s not too late to enter (have a go you might be surprised). Please contact 01323 492246 or 872098.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: The monthly social evening of Seaford Horticultural Society held on February 25 at St Leonard’s Church Hall was pleased to welcome Debbie Hibberd as its speaker. Debbie shared with members how she transformed her back garden into an oasis of beauty and tranquillity from what her son had used in his younger days as a rugby pitch. Pictures on screen showed the garden as it was - rough and colourless with very little structure. The pictures led us through the following few years as the various stages of change took place which finally resulted in the garden becoming a place to appreciate colour and peaceful harmony, somewhere to sit and ponder, appreciate birdsong and gather thoughts. Throughout her talk Debbie gave tips on garden design and layout, which flower colours to put together and how to use pots and other items to fill odd spaces. Although Debbie is not opening her garden this summer, she plans to do so next year when she has completed some changes to her flower displays. It was a talk enjoyed by all. The evening also included a competition of five Hellebore flower heads floating in water. The winners were: 1, Shirley Duda (centre); 2, Valerie Painter (left); 3, Seaford Community Garden (right).

The next social evening of the society is on March 31 at St Leonard’s Church Hall when Richard James will be giving a talk on The Rathfinney Wine Estate. All information about Seaford Horticultural Society is available on the website seafordhorti.com (Sylvia Reeve).
