The application for the ‘RagaMuffin’ breed to
receive the ranking was recently approved by the Governing Council for the
Cat Fancy (GCCF).

On Saturday, August 15, the RagaMuffin breed will be on show at the 49th Championship Show, which will be held at the Fleming Park Leisure Centre in Eastleigh.

Cath Walter owns three RagaMuffins, is a registered breeder of the variety in the UK, and is on the committee of the United Kingdom RagaMuffin Cat Society

She said: “It means a lot for the RagaMuffin Cat to be promoted to championship status. It’s the culmination of seven years spent successfully promoting the breed at GCCF cat shows throughout the UK.”

Recognised as a large, cuddly, teddy bear type of cat, the RagaMuffin was fully established in America in
the 1990s and was imported to the UK in 2008/9.

In 2009, the GCCF recognised the RagaMuffin name and breeders were able to register authentic RagaMuffins for the first time in this country.

In 2010, the breed gained preliminary recognition.
