Seven days to run 90k

IT was billed as '˜the run to remember' and for those taking part lived up to expectations.

To achieve 90k to mark 90 years of the Royal British Legion, a team of runners from its Riders Branch took part in seven 13k runs throughout Britain.

It took just seven days to run 1k for each year of the RBL in its anniversary year.

Runners started in the Midlands and ran from Lichfield to National Memorial Arboretum, then started from Great Yarmouth, Catterick Garrison, Cardiff, Weston Super Mare and Southsea.

The final stretch on Saturday was in the South East region and runners left from Battle to run to Bexhill and the final finish line at Mais House in Hastings Road.

Activities organiser Del Holmes said: “The core runners joined by a staff member set off from Battle Abbey at approximately 9.30am and arrived at Mais House at 10.45am. They were greeted by residents, matron, staff and visitors from other local homes. It was a great turnout.

Ray Collins [member of the Riders Branch of the Royal British Legion] ,organiser of the run, laid a wreath in memory of all who have served and are serving in the forces.

“Well done to all who took part.”
