STAY ALERT FOR BOGUS WATER CALLERS

South East Water has reminded its customers to be on their guard against bogus callers posing as water company officials.

The warning comes after two men talked their way into the home of an elderly couple in Westham, near Pevensey, pretending to be working for the water company.

The men were not wearing a uniform, showed no identification and were not travelling in a vehicle with the company's logo.

The men persuaded the couple to allow them entry, claiming they would 'lose their jobs' if they were not allowed in, and once inside stole valuables.

Howard Handley, Director of Customer Services at South East Water, said: 'Remember, never let anyone into your home unless you are absolutely sure they are who they say they are.'
