Staying active at Bexhill Senior Citizens Club

BEING active and making friends '“ that's what it's all about at Bexhill's Senior Citizens Club in Eversley Road.

The club, which has 400 members, has a Movement To Music session every week which is run by Kath Haggatta.

It's a chance for a get-together as well as keeping fit, according to Kath.

"We do very gentle exercise to music for an hour. The most we can get in the hall is 24 people and we have a waiting list but if someone wants to come we wouldn't turn them away.

"We like people to come into the club '“ if they don't join my class, they will join something else, but we hope people do come and have a look, and see if they are interested."

The class itself starts at 10.30 but members turn up early for coffee and a chat.

Kath said: "It is a social meeting apart from doing keep-fit. It is a way to getting together '“ 28 of us went out to lunch recently. It is a friendly club, and for people who have nothing else to do or are on their own, it stops them being lonely.

"If someone is not well we make sure we ring them up and find out how they are, and just keep in contact with people.

"Come and have a coffee and join in. There's lots of things to do apart from keep-fit. Come and have a chat and a laugh."
