Storrington hosting annual Christmas night celebrations

STORRINGTON and Sullington Parish Council are hosting their annual Christmas night celebrations tonight (Thursday December 1).

After last year’s very unfortunate cancellation due to the heavy snow the parish council have said they are ‘determined to put on the best ever entertainment on the night, with fun for all the family’.

The parish council has contributed £5,000 towards the cost of the Storrington Christmas lights and celebrations.

A list of those businesses and traders, who have supported the evening by either giving donations or using the evening to raise money for charities, will appear in our its next newsletter.

The celebrations kick off at 6pm when the lights will be switched on in Place Villerest by CAREMARK of Pulborough, who will also be presenting the prize for the winning Christmas Light design and have kindly donated funds toward the night.

Children from Storrington First School will then be getting the evening underway with festive songs and carols.

There will be fairground attractions, Father Christmas, mince pies, mulled wine, a silver band, festive market, face painting, hot food and lots more along the High Street and in Mill Square.

In Church Street there will be even more bands, burgers, singing, dancing and entertainment.

Throughout Storrington there will be shops offering fantastic gifts and festive fare, as well as a fire engine and fire fighters.

Organised said: “Traditionally this event is held on the first Thursday in December and we wish to thank all participating shops, banks, estate agents, businesses etc. for taking part in this widely popular evening.”

Each year the parish council asks Storrington First School to enter a competition to design a set-piece Christmas decoration to be put up in the village alongside the other Christmas lights. The winning decoration this year was a super “Bauble” designed by Callum Lidbetter in Year 5. The prize of a framed artwork of his design and a £25 Gift Voucher will be awarded to him on the evening of the Storrington Christmas Night event.

Winning set-pieces from previous years will also be on display in the village over the Christmas period.

The event starts at 6pm and runs until 9pm.
