Students had a lot of fun clowning around at events

Over the last two weeks Felpham Community College has opened its doors and welcomed some 450 students from seven local primary schools for the educational and informative days full of circus fun.

The Year 5 students were encouraged to roll up for the greatest show on earth and learn some new skills.

But despite all the clowning around there was a serious emphasis on trying to encourage the youngsters to have the courage to try something different along the way.

Felpham Community College headteacher Mark Anstiss said: “It was fantastic to welcome so many students from our local primary schools 
to Felpham.

“The Year 5s showed great enthusiasm and creativity and it was good to give them an experience which will help with transition in a year’s time.”

There was a lot of clowning around in the drama workshops, cannon-ball making, flame-throwing and even tightrope-walking in the science department.

Elmer the Elephant 
even had to play his part by balancing precariously on stilts during the making of an animation story.

Students from Felpham Community College helped with the activities and, to ease misconceptions, answered questions about life in secondary school.

The students were on hand throughout the wacky activities and were praised as a credit to the school by many of the visiting teachers and younger pupils.

The funtastic event received sponsorship from Class Technology Solutions and as a souvenir water bottles were given to each student who attended.

Pupils from Edward Bryant, Bishop Tufnell, Downview Primary School, South Bersted, Laburnum Grove, Nyewood Junior School and Rose Green were among those taking part.

Many of the younger pupils who visited will move up to the secondary school when they are old enough, so the event was a fun way for them to be introduced to the school and to see what it is like.

The event replaced the Felpham Way school’s Magic Days which has taken place in previous years.
