Successful student trade fair in Hastings

Students set up their own trade stands in Priory Meadow Shopping Centre and sold to the public as part of a school project on Saturday (March 5).

The student companies sold tote bags, birdhouses and more to passing shoppers after setting up firms with the help of charity Young Enterprise.

The trade fair was jointly-won by South Style – formed by pupils from Saxon Mount and Torfield Schools – and Grass Shoots from Highworth Grammar School in Ashford.

Companies from St Leonards Academy and Ratton School, Eastbourne, were highly commended by judge and 1066 Federation of Small Businesses chairman Brett McLean.

“It is extremely refreshing to meet innovative and entrepreneurial students with an interest in business, these students could be tomorrow’s employers and real life entrepreneurs,” he said.

Young Enterprise has been working with the students to set up their own companies, make a product and then sell it to the public.

All four companies will be selling their products at the Checkatrade.com Expo in St Leonards on Thursday (March 17).

This year’s expo at Azur at the Marina Pavilion will showcase 40 exhibitors from businesses and schools all over the world from 10am to 4pm.
