Summer fun in Bexhill

ORGANISATIONS and agencies have once again joined to promote summer play opportunities for Bexhill's youngsters. For the under 13s, there are four themed weeks of fun organised through Sure Start and the Bexhill Children's Activity Group.

These include summer fun, sensory sensation, people who help us and our planet. This starts on Monday and includes sports, crafts and arts. Lined up already on the different weeks include tennis, street dance and indoor bowls.

The venues are Egerton Park, Pebsham Recreation Ground, Sidley Community Centre and Barrack Hall. Weekly sheets of activities will be available from Egerton Park Family Leaning Centre.

Mastersport and Play (www.mastersport.org.uk / 01323 741141) will be supporting the programme with play activities for five to seven year-olds and sport activities for eight to 12 years.

These will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the mornings at Egerton Park (10 to 12) and the afternoons (1 to 3pm) at Little Common.

Sessions cost 2.50. For the first two weeks there will additionally be athletics tuition at the morning Egerton Park sessions with ex-Olympic star Sean Baldock.

Other cultural events include activities put on by the De La Warr Pavilion and Bexhill Library. De La Warr activities include being creative on the Sure Start days supported by local artists and additional activities and shows at the pavilion itself. Freedom Leisure will be offering summer fun at Bexhill Leisure Centre and Bexhill Leisure Pool. (01424 731508 / 731171)

'¢Bexhill College will operate a Children's Activity programme.

'¢Opportunities exist for sport and play on beaches across the district and in various parks and open spaces such as the Downs.

Sports clubs are expected to be offering additional opportunities over the summer. Details on clubs can be found on the Active Rother Website. Funding proposals for clubs looking to expand what they organise for young people over the summer, might also be eligible to receive a small grant from Rother sports development officer Adrian Gaylon.
