Sunday mail collections axed

MAIL will no longer be collected from post boxes in Lewes and Wealden on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

The downsizing of mail collections are part of a nationwide initiative by Royal Mail to save money.

A spokesman said it cost four times as much to collect mail on a Sunday as on other days of the week.

He added: 'Demand for a Sunday service, introduced in 1990, is limited and accounts for less than one per cent of all mail posted each week.

'The small volumes means it costs four times as much to handle this mail than items collected on other days.'
