From Friday night (April 27) and throughout the weekend, 15 town centre pubs will host the Brighton Tap Takeover.

The event is expected to attract around 4,000 drinkers as some of the world’s greatest brewers help to create a mammoth craft beer pub crawl.

More then 100 brews will be available over the weekend, with many available in the city for the first time. Run by The Beer Collective, Sussex’s top craft beer distributor, and Brighton’s Laine Pub Company, the theme of this year’s festival is “collaboration”.

Jack Hibberd, festival manager, said: “Brewers love to collaborate with each other and push each other to come up with bolder, even more exciting beers, so at The North Laine Brewhouse festival hub, we’re assembling a 20-strong tap wall entirely given over to collaborations.

“We don’t think that’s been done before!”

The festival also sees an expanded program of entertainment and educational events. Leading beer writers, such as Pete Brown, will be giving free tutored tasting at various venues in the city and every venue will feature something food, music or art-related. Laine Brew Co has taken the theme of collaboration one step further by collaborating not with another brewery, but with a record shop, North Laine’s Resident Records.

Jack Hibberd explained: “We had the idea of getting Resident to choose a record for us to design a beer around. The Result is “Get it On”, which is based on the Grinderman (Nick Cave) track of the same name.”
