FLOWER CLUB: Peacehaven and Telscombe Flower Club meet on the third Wednesday of each month, 2pm for 2.30pm start, at the Civic Centre.

PLANNING AND HIGHWAYS: Planning and Highways meeting on Monday at 7.30pm in the civic centre. Council meeting on Wednesday at 7.30pm. If there is insufficient business, meetings may be cancelled. Please therefore telephone the Civic Centre on 01273 589777 to ensure that the meeting is being held. Meetings are open to members of the public who are able to ask questions for a 15 minute period at the start of each meeting. Meetings are held in Telscombe Civic Centre, unless otherwise stated.

FOOTNOTES: Bouncing along certain roads in both Telscombe and Peacehaven this week, and trying to preserve Mauds’, (the car), undercarriage, wheels and suspension gubbins from damage as we lurched from one pot hole to another, I was wondering why money is wasted on filling holes in the road with material that washes away at the first shower of rain, or shrinks like the proverbial violets at the first frost. Most of the pot holes I remember from last year, they reappear with the regularity of clockwork each spring. Surely, in an era that has provided us with a certain product that will fill any hole or crack in a concrete wall, so hard it can be screwed, nailed, painted over etc., and is guaranteed not to shrink, we can invent a similar product that could be filled into a hole in the road, smoothed over and last for years. Far too simple a solution, I suspect. In the meantime, Maud and I risk life and limb, dodging pot holes. All grist to the mill of those who would have us back in the horse and cart era, I don’t doubt. I presume they must have had pot holes as well, but the poor horse just had to get on with it. Go safely.
