Town 'won't cope'

MEMBERS of Hailsham Town Council made their feelings known about the draft Wealden Local Plan on Wednesday, with many objecting to huge housing proposals for the town.

Land to the north of Hailsham is earmarked for massive development, but local councillors believed the area could not physically cope.

However, the council supported some 'sympathetic' housing on the Hellingly asylum site and the proposal of Pelham Homes to build thousands of houses north-west of Polegate.

Complaints about the plan mainly centred around transport issues and local infrastructure shortfalls.
