Cyclist suffers serious head injury in Brighton collision

An 80-year-old cyclist suffered a serious head injury after being involved in a collision with a car, police said.

Police were called to the junctions of the A259 Kings Road and Preston Street, Brighton, at 8.14pm on Sunday (June 24).

A police spokesman said: “An 80-year-old cyclist, a foreign national, was in collision with a gold Ford KA being driven by a 64-year-old local woman.

“As a result of this, the cyclist sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, where he remains in intensive care. Next of kin have been informed.

“The westbound carriageway was closed for approximately four hours while officers from the Roads Policing Unit examined the scene.”
