MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING: Our contribution to this year's big national fundraising event was another great success. At opening time on Friday morning the various tables were already well stocked with the tempting goods donated by many of you, and plenty more soon started coming in. As a result of brisk sales, the purchase of refreshments, two very successful raffles and some generous donations, a sum of Â£750 (and still counting) was raised for this highly deserving charity, our highest total ever. Much credit for this is due to Gill Rothery, for getting the show on the road, and she in her turn would like to thank her team of helpers, and everyone who brought and bought so generously. Having now run five of these annual events, Gill tells me she'd be very happy to hand the baton on to someone else. If you'd like to consider the possibility of taking it on and would like to know what it involves (without any commitments), do have a chat with her sometime (01424 882774).

CHURCH SERVICE: At 11.15am on Sunday there will be a service of Parish Eucharist in St Mary’s Church, followed by refreshments.

BREDE MEMORIES: At 7.30pm on Wednesday (October 19) in Brede Village Hall Dr John Crook FSA will trace the story of Brede as seen through the scrap-books and photographs compiled by his great-grandfather The Revd George Ernest Frewer, who was instituted Rector in 1886. He will also look at the geographical setting of the village, its long history, its vanished industries and way of life and some of the other characters associated with Brede in days gone by. This is sure to be a fascinating talk, by an expert on his subject. Tickets for entry, including cheese, biscuits and a glass of wine, cost £7.50, and are available from Marion Firman (01424 751165) or Pat Whately (01424 883069), or at the door. This is a fundraising event for the Friends of St George’s Church.

CAPABILITY BROWN: At 2pm the following afternoon (Thursday October 20), also in Brede Village Hall, Mark Lamey will be giving a talk about the life and work of this celebrated landscape architect, to mark the tercentenary of his birth. This is the first of the winter talks season arranged by the Rye and District Association of the National Trust.

PROPOSED LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOUNDARY CHANGES: Responding to the representations of the Parish Council, and of all of you who wrote in, the Boundary Commission has decided that Udimore will continue to be represented on East Sussex County Council by the same councillor as Brede (instead of being transferred to the Northern Rother ward, as was originally proposed). A good piece of news which shows that protests are sometimes worth making!
