Unseasonably sunny spell helps Rye Tourism Industry

Advanced bookings for the Rye Lodge Hotel are up almost 24% year on year as the unusually sunny start to March sees tourists flock to Rye

Only a matter of weeks ago the Met Office were already reporting the wettest winter in 250 years. Yet the last week has given rise to an unusual but welcome break to the onslaught of rain and cold, with the early spring sunshine driving a major tourist influx to the town.

Local hotelier Kerry de Courcy from Rye Lodge said: “On Saturday March 15 Rye really awoke from its winter slumber - the High street was bustling - the restaurants and pubs were alive with people and, at Rye Lodge, we were fully booked and turning people away - the first time that has happened this year.”

“Temperatures look set to rise again towards the end of next week, and we are optimistic of some great weather for the upcoming Mothers Day weekend.”
